First of all we really have to tell you that the last three cars from Citroen range in this segment were really remarkable!


Citroën cars always feature a large dose of avant-garde. In spite of the years, the manufacturer has dropped from one-wheel steering, machine controls or unusual control of everything that was in the cabin (for example, the CX had a car radio behind the shift lever - quite out of the driver's field of view), but one thing kept the big Citroen up until recently. 



This was a gas-cushion suspension where the usual set of shock-steel spring replaced the suspension system using liquids and nitrogen. 


Typical so-called "spheres" most often in green in the role of spring units have the Citroen associated with everyone who is interested in cars.That’s why when we expect to drive an C5 we expect to drive a nice sedan with Hydractiva intelligent suspension, not an mondaine SUV.

The next generation of the C5 does not remind its predecessor of anything. To emphasize this, the car was given the name Aircross. Instead of a sedan or a combo we have an SUV or maybe acrossover whose technique is related to other models of the PSA group. Probably the nearest C5 Aircross to  Peugeot 3008 . 


Even the iconic XM model shared a floor with Peugeot 605, smaller ZX (later Xsara) were 306 and duo 106 / Saxo differed from all Peugeot-Citroën couples, perhaps the least.


BIG FINE DIESEL ENGINE BUT. EXPENSIVE TO BUY!




In terms of volume, tested two-liter blueHDi is the largest engine in the C5 Aircross. In terms of power, then 180 HP that has a better AdBlue system to comply WLTP norms.


With a torque of 400 Nm at 2000 rpm, however, it is the clear king of the engines in this car.Four-cylinder 2.0 BlueHDi is the latest evolution of the DW series, which was launched in the late 1990s.



With the original engines, however, this has a common maximum displacement and possibly even pitch of the cylinders. The only version of this 2.0 BlueHDi engine is equipped with a balancing shaft cassette previously used by PSA 2.2 HDi engines.


This is a so-cultivated, low-noise operation, which is still supported by a two-mass flywheel that has not previously matched the automatic gearbox. 


 This is the only option and, given that it is a great Aisin at PSA called EAT8 with eight gears and a torque converter, you would definitely not change it as a manual.



Conclusion


The new C5 Aircross is no longer the car that we have associated with the model, but it is also something new, though not revolutionary. The strongest side of the car is its look, which is still avant-garde enough to not get your car suited to SUVs of other brands.  


The big problem of this new car from Citroen is the price tag that is over 44.000 euros for a diesel with automatic gearbox.Boys and girls for this amount of money you really could buy a BMW X1 or a premium Mercedes Benz GLA, cars that have a really big resell value in time.


It’s really hard to pay almost 50.000 euros for a Citroen that doesen’t even have 4WD in an SUV class.
